Fred Thompson will win the Republican nomination and has a very good chance of becoming president on January 20, 2009. Should Thompson face Clinton or Obama, I believe he is guaranteed the win, however should Southern charmer John Edwards win the nomination it will be a closer race.

Where politically does Fred Thompson stand? Is he more of a fiscal conservative or does he fall more into the religious right?

He is a fiscal conservative. He is also socially conservative, but he doesn't go around justifying his views based on religion doctorine. Thusly, he is able to appeal to both religious and secular conservatives.

He was McCain's campaign chair in 2000 but was chosen by Bush to run John Roberts "confirmation campaign" to become Chief Justice in 2005.
