In a surprising first ballot victory, out of 7 contenders, Louis Robichaud managed to win 51% of the vote and capture the title of New Brunswick's Best Premier. He will now advance to face 9 others in Calgary Grit's poll for Canada's Best Premier.The voting was light at first but took off and in the end we had 133 votes cast; considerably less than the 301 in the preliminary qualifying round but it was for a shorter voting period due to my anticipation that we would have to go multiple rounds.
The race began as a bit of a heat between Robichaud and Frank McKenna but by day two, Robichaud had roared into a commanding lead. Over the course of day two and into today, Bernard Lord made a surprising surge ending up in second place.
The final results were:
1. Robichaud 51% (68 votes)
2. Lord 21% (28 votes)
3. McKenna 15% (20 votes)
4. Hatfield 11% (14 votes)
5. Flemming 2% (2 votes)
6. Tilley 1% (1 vote)
7. Fisher 0% (nil)

Interesting choice since McKenna and Lord obviously have a lot more name recognition. But Robichaud seems to have a solid bio behind him.
He is kind of the Jean Lesage of New Brunswick, dragged us kicking and screaming into the 20th century, despite the fact it was already 1960 when he took office.
I still believe Lord visits your blog. He figured out how to vote multiple times - 28 times to be exact.

I can understand Tories wanting to support one of their own, but Lord? He was hardly a success: Orimulsion, shadow tolls, deficits, and almost became a one-term Premier.
Someone like Hatfield or Flemming, in my opinion, would have been a more worthy candidate from the PC Party.
and actually on the Ontario vote Mike Harris is at top even though that's a Liblog -- I think if there really was the support for Lord, we would have seen it.

Who says I'm a Tory??? To be honest, I think Lord found it difficult to lead in a government dependent province. Yes, he could have done quite a few things differently, however, tories have never been as good as Liberals (federally or provincially) at completely lying to the people, spending their money, striking useless task forces and paying off their partisan supporters. A practice that is still rampant in this province and needs cleaned up. If not, this province will continue to go nowhere under the great pressure of pandering corprate welfare hacks and political friendly firms. No way to run an economy.
Oh btw, as bad as you claim Lord is, I think most of your comments are made in envy because you know that every Liberal in this province (aside from conservative Frank McKenna) has and will never go as far as him politically.

well, well, well that crook from Kent won, I think if we look at anything that louis did it was most likly the wrong thing; equal opertunity the NB flag, burning churchs along the St. John river, causing the anglo/franco devide and other great feats of Political Mastery well then yes he should get the vote. Oh and don't forget raising shawn graham what a great job he did there!

Oh, dear God, save us from this do-nothing politician. Maybe we haven't heard the last, and I have heard his name mentioned by others as an alternative to the dislikable Stephen Harper, but I'm thinking it is up to us NBer's to worn the rest of the country of Lord's incompetence.

It will require major microscopic research & looking to find Lord's legacy. Lot of screw-ups though.
Like nbpolitico said, New Brunswick really entered 20th century with Robichaud. The best Premier for sure.
After the mess that McKenna made of education, healthcare and the economy with his call center dealsi can't understand why NB people still like him.
